Summer in Honolulu.
I do miss those lazy summer days. The air, the light, the weather, and of course --- the food. I made my rounds during my vacation. Starting with . . . Rainbow Drive In in Kapahulu. I remembered to take a picture of the sign, but I was so hungry for my food that I forgot to take a picture of it. I had a chili bowl with rice and a slush float. . . still getting a hang of this. I love Zippy's chili, but use to love Rainbow's chili plate. Oh, hanabuddah days of scraping for $1.50 in coins to buy a chili plate after the beach. Lucky you live Hawaii.
The next day, my niece and took a long detour to Kahuku for garlic shrimp at Giovanni. It was pretty hot that day. There are 3 choices on the menu, but when it's hot I'll bet they decide to make only one of the specials. Today, it was only Special #1 Shrimp scampi. $12 for 12 shrimp, not such a great deal. Gotta try it once. I got a sunburn on my arm that day -- just driving out to the North Shore.
My mom loves the laulau's here at Ono Hawaiian Food in Kapahulu. She was hungry for it when I came home so we went there for lunch. We usually order the combo add a few extra dishes and we're full. This time we added chicken long rice and I couldn't resist I ordered and extra pork laulau. I figured mom could eat the next day for lunch. What spread!
